the liebster award

Last month I received the Liebster Award from a fun blogger, Holly at Damita's Pretty Wrap. I have been busy and am just getting around to posting about it.

The German word "liebster" translates into English as "beloved" or "favorite." This award is given to new and up coming bloggers
that have less than 200 followers.

Thanks Holly! You have been a great supporter of my blog and shop!

In order to accept this award, I must...

1. Link back to the person who gave it to me. Check!
2. Post the Award to your blog. Check!
3. Give the award to 5 bloggers with less than 200 followers.

Here are my picks:

4. Leave a comment on the 5 blogs to let them know they have been offered this award. Check!
5. Share 5 random facts about yourself:

1. I have been married almost 15 years!
2. I am a HUGE Dr. Pepper fan :)
3. I love living in Arizona, even with the heat!
4. I don't have tons of friends, but the ones I have, have been around for a long time :)
5. I hate housework (dishes, laundry, general cleaning) anyone who knows me in real life can testify to this :)

Thanks again Holly for the fun recognition!

choosing vintage sheets

I originally posted this over at the Vintage Sheet Blog, but I thought I would post it again here in case you missed it. It is a good time to be on the look out at yard sales (unless you live in Arizona like me).

*******************

Choosing colors when you are using vintage sheets is really fun. A lot of sheets were produced in similar color palettes, making coordinating super easy! I love using vintage sheets for quilts, because they always come out super soft and cuddly!

For the first example here I wanted the quilt to have an overall feel of blue and purple. Most sheets that have those 2 colors are also going to have at least some bits of green or other colors, which is fine. I like to have the extra pops of color to add another dimension to the colors, but I don't want them to be overwhelming.

Sometimes it is easier to decide which colors you don't want in the quilt. In this case, I didn't mind having a couple of bits of pink, but I definitely wanted to eliminate yellow and orange.

You also need to keep in mind the saturation of the colors. If you have one or two prints that are significantly darker or lighter than the rest then your eye will be drawn to them in the quilt instead of an overall feel.

The next color palette I chose is what I consider a "candy colored" group. It is my go to color scheme for many of my vintage sheet projects. Pink, yellow and aqua with bits of green are my favorites. Luckily, it is a color combo that seems to be readily available.

I also love to add stripes, plaids and polka dots when I can. Again, just another dimension to the quilt and it helps to break up all the floral prints.

These are leftovers from a quilt that I recently completed. You can see there is a good mix of colors, stripes and polka dots.  I also like to add a modern fabric here or there as fun mix.

This is the same group of fabrics without the greens/blues for a softer feel.

Of course, the possibilities are endless, yellow/orange, blue/green, yellow/green/orange (citrus)

I think the most important thing to remember is to use what you love.

june bee blocks

Another month of fun bee blocks. For the TRUST circle of do.Good Stitches Svetlana asked for log cabin blocks in shade of aqua, turquoise and blue with a jewel tone center. I think it is going to be a great quilt when it is put all together!

The first Bee Vintage block is for Tammie, it is going to be such a fun colorful quilt with all these pinwheels!

The second Bee Vintage block is for Nikki, she requested solids with a print. It will be another great and colorful quilt when it is finished!
